Dr. Gendron is a finalist for the Prestigious Lynton Award

Congratulations, Dr. Gendron!
Tracey Gendron, Ph.D. (M.S.'95/AHP; M.S.'12/H&S; Ph.D.'13/H&S), an assistant professor
of gerontology in the VCU School of Allied Health Professions, is one of 10 finalists
for the 2014 Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early 
Career Faculty.
The award, announced by the New England Resource Center for Higher Education and
 the Center for Engaged Democracy at Merrimack College, recognizes a faculty member
who connects his or her teaching, research and service to community engagement.
The Lynton Award recognizes early career faculty who are pre-tenure at tenure-granting
campuses or early career - within the first six years - at campuses with long-term
contracts.

Faculty Honors

Both Dr. Ayn Welleford and Assistant Professor Tracey Gendron were recently alerted to honors which they have been awarded.  Dr. Welleford was recently honored at Senior Connections, the Capital Area Agency on Aging's annual Empty Plate Luncheon with the Mary Creath Payne Leadership award for her exceptional contributions to the field of aging. 

 

Tracey will be honored later in October with the Burnside-Watstein Award for her contribution to enriching the LGBT climate throughout Virginia Commonwealth University with her work on the University's Equity and Diversity Committee and her development of a person-centered caring curriculum for healthcare professionals on issues unique to the aging LGBT population.  Congratulations!

Tracey Gendron and co-authors' Article to be Published

 Assistant Professor Tracey Gendron and co-authors Stu Maddux, Lisa Krinsky, Jay White, MS, Sadashiv Aggarwal, MS, Kelly Lockerman and Yohvanne Metcalfe were recently informed that their paper titled "Cultural Competence Training for Healthcare Professionals Working with LGBT Older Adults" was accepted to Educational Gerontology

 

This well-respected, peer-reviewed journal offers up-to-date original research in the fields of gerontology, adult education, and the social and behavioral sciences. Papers published in the journal will also serve as authoritative contributions to the growing literature in this burgeoning field. Educational Gerontology is the only international journal of its kind to publish twelve issues per volume year.  Congratulations all!

Dr. E. Ayn Welleford To Be Honored

 

Congratulations to Dr. Welleford who will be honored at the 2011 Alzheimer's Advocate Recognition Reception.  Co-honorees include The Honorable and Mrs. Franklin R. Hall and Mary Washington Healthcare.  The event is being held in honor of National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month.
