Join Us for Active Aging Week
There is no doubt Greater Richmond is actively aging!  Today, our region is celebrating longevity never before seen in history, as the number of individuals age 85 and older is expected to more than quadruple by 2040.  And key ingredients to this not so secret sauce include maintaining an active lifestyle, at any age, through-- volunteerism, exercise, balanced nutrition, socialization and wellness checks.  Learn more about this week here.

In the spirit of active lifestyles, we are encouraging individuals to engage in their communities through this week-long adventure. RVA’s 2015 Active Aging Week is Sunday, September 27-Saturday, October 3, in alignment with the national initiative of the International Council on Active Aging.  Now is the time to mark your calendars for the various events and activities that will take place across Greater Richmond.  Visit us here for more details:  RVA Active Aging Week Facebook page and Agewellva.com.

Last year, over 40 community partners participated in this event which showcased existing resources, services, activities and workshops- all open to the public at free to low cost.  Ms. Sharon Brewer, our 2014 Active Aging Week Chair, exemplifies active aging in Richmond in this inspiring short video.

There are many ways for you to get involved in this Adventure from participating in an activity to hosting an event, volunteering, and of course, sharing this with your networks.
  • Host an Active Aging Week Event: For those interested in hosting an event, please contact Sara Morris, smorris@youraaa.org; (804) 828-1565. Events will be free or very low cost and intake sheets are used to populate our printed and virtual calendar on our Facebook page, http://facebook.com/RVAActiveAgingWeek.  For an intake form, click here.
  • Volunteer during Active Aging Week: If you or your business is interested in volunteering please contact Sara Morris and we will set you and/or your organization up with an opportunity. For a list of volunteer opportunities click here.
  • Share with your Networks: Help us promote this weeklong event by telling your organization, friends, family and networks about this exciting event. Do not forget to “Like Us” on Facebook! Http://facebook.com/RVAActiveAgingWeek
